March to a beat of a different kind this summer with the new Bim Kenesis Spring/Summer 08 collection!
Marching Orders, the Spring/Summer 08/09 collection from up-and-coming label Bim Kenesis, takes inspiration from the exuberant energy of marching band music, uniforms and formations. This high-powered collection is unashamedly girly, yet balanced, with a tailored Ivy League look and a preppy aesthetic.
The Bim Kenesis label is going from strength to strength. This year saw it shortlisted for the SOYA awards, attract an ever-growing New Zealand fan base, and receive widespread press coverage. Bree Kiddey, the designer behind Bim Kenesis, says, “Marching Orders is more sophisticated than previous seasons’ collections, but it still offers plenty of fun-detailing, party ensembles and day pieces. It has been designed so that the more feminine pieces can be pared back with masculine, structured pieces.”
Marching Orders features a clean palette of black and white, Wedgwood blue, gold and a shock of coral. Bree has continued to use exclusive, theme-inspired prints to complement the collection. This season’s signature design features a cute trumpet logo, hand-printed in Australia, on natural fabrics such as silks, jerseys, cottons and linen blends. The collection is fashioned from versatile pieces designed to be dressed up or down, with an emphasis on the shoulder and waist.
Bree’s signature details continue to define the label’s aesthetic. The Spring/ Summer 08/09 collection includes band uniform inspired details, such as precision pleats, reversible bows, braids, tassels and brass buttons. Shorts, playsuits and blazers include chevron pocket features with dresses and blouses utilizing clever, reversible cross-banding, reminiscent of drum supports. Tops and bodysuits include striking drape tie details inspired by marching band directions.
This season sees Bim Kenesis teaming up with fellow Perth-based jewellery label, Dapple Grey, to create an exciting new accessories line that completes the look for the collection. The “Dapple Grey loves Bim Kenesis” collection will quicken your heartbeat with necklaces inspired by Marching Orders. The range features abstract drum silhouettes, tassel shapes and quirky figures in mediums that include powder coated metals and acrylics, in shades of silver, gold, and red.
Start forming an orderly queue now - Marching Orders will be walking double time out the door this summer!!
